Want to occupy your toddlers for a couple hours while you’re stuck inside? The solution is simple! Anyone who has set up a sensory bin for their toddler knows, children play with them for so long! I want to share 8 sensory bins that I have made for my toddlers + the ultimate list of sensory bin ideas to take your sensory bins to the next level. Let’s get started!

Macaroni Farm

Easter Grass

Easter Rice

To dye the rice for this sensory bin, fill a zip loc bag with rice and drop in 2-3 drops of pastel gel food coloring. Shake the bag around until the dye covers all of the rice.

Rice Jurassic World

You can get the dinosaur set that I use for this bin, HERE.

Find The Color

Cut up white straws or pipe cleaners, then throw in a few colored ones as well. Encourage play in this bin by asking your toddler questions like “How many of the straws are NOT white”, “Do you see any green ones”, How many orange pieces are in the bin?”, etc.

Ocean Life

Ice Cream Shop

Monster Jam

Find The Color: Cotton Ball Edition

This is another bin where you can encourage your toddler to count and practice naming their colors, as well as practice sorting.

What’s The Point of a Sensory Bin?

Sensory bins aren’t just for children with sensory processing disorders. They’re great for kids aged 1-4+. The bins help improve children’s fine motor skills, science skills, math skills, creativity, critical thinking, and more. Plus, it is a cheap way to entertain toddlers. For instance, today my daughters, aged 2 and 3, played with their dinosaur themed bin at the kitchen table for two hours while I cleaned the kitchen and cooked dinner. Yes, TWO HOURS. They’re life savers.

Here’s some ideas to kick start amazing fun with your own sensory bins!
