Hi, I’m Samantha! A mom to two little girls and a travel lover. My love for travel started at a young age. Taking trips with my mom when I was little really infected me with the travel bug and it hasn’t left me yet!
My Complicated Journey To Becoming A Travel Blogger
At 16, I was a volleyball star. I’m not talking olympic level or anything crazy, but I did have several offers to play in college. After deciding which college I wanted to attend, I signed a contract to play and I couldn’t have been happier!
Shortly after, I got sick. I passed out in the middle of a high school game and what followed was a long journey to finding medical answers. Numerous scans, blood work, MRI’s, EKG’s, receiving fluids and much more was performed in search of a diagnosis. An MRI lead to the discovery of a brain tumor. It currently isn’t big enough/causing enough trouble to be remover. But, I kind of feel like it’s a ticking time bomb you know?
Eventually a tilt table test lead to the diagnosis. I had POTS. (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome)
Long story short I passed out a lot and had a constant headache. I was miserable and for some time, bedridden. We never figured out why I had POTS, but I knew my life was gong to change forever. Eventually, after being on homebound schooling, I came to terms with the fact that my volleyball career and hopes for college was over and that I had to start looking at other options for my future.
What was next?
At 17, I very slowly walked across the stage at my high school graduation and then stumbled back to my seat. I didn’t know if I would have the strength to stand outside in the heat to graduate, but I made it!
At 18, I married my high school sweet heart and boyfriend of 5 years. We started a home together and I’m so thankful for his love while I tried to rebuild my life through my health issues.
At 19, I gave birth to my first daughter, my sweet Elsie Lou. Being pregnant with POTS wasn’t easy. Over time though, due to the extra blood flow from being pregnant, my symptoms eased. I found my love for travel again. I took my pregnant self all over the place. Elsie girl has been a little traveler from her very beginning!
At 20, I gave birth to my second daughter just one year later to my little princess, Mairead Eleanor.
At 21, my POTS had disappeared. Being pregnant and giving birth had literally fixed all of my symptoms of POTS. My blood pressure and pulse had returned to normal. I wasn’t fainting. I lost some weight, I had more energy, the heat wasn’t my ultimate enemy. I stopped blogging on my first website after I become a mom because it was all about traveling with a chronic illness and praise the Lord, I didn’t have one anymore!
At 22, I started my new blog. Which I’m so glad you are reading now! This website is all about my solo travels with my baby girls.
At 23, I am in my final year of a business management degree. I’m so glad I am finally able to go to college, even though it was later than expected. Although I had a few rough years, my life went in the best direction it could have went in.
What’s up now?
Thanks to my health issues and my children, I get to do what I love. I always knew that I wanted to be a mom and that I wanted to home school my kids when the time came. I also had always been interested in business.
Now, I have get to travel the world, own my own business, home school my girls, and to top it all off I’m married to the love of my life!
